Job Description

Position Title: Head of Trade Finance Department

Location: Bank of China (Canada) Head Office, Markham, ON

Reporting to: Executive Vice President

Application Deadline: December 29, 2017

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential clients that can use trade finance products and make effective presentations to such customers, highlighting the Bank’s unique advantages and how the Bank’s products can be of benefit to the Client
  • Work with other teams and branches to identify clients in their existing portfolios that may benefit from the Bank’s suite of trade finance and supply chain finance products
  • Lead a team of trade finance documentary specialists to ensure the effective and timely execution of transaction processing
  • Work closely with teams in the Legal and Compliance Department to ensure that the department’s AML/ATF, operational risk and all other compliance risk policies are in line with regulatory and Bank compliance requirements
  • Regularly compose reports on regulatory compliance activities of the department and assessment of department’s adherence to Bank and regulatory requirements
  • Liaise with industry bodies, chambers of commerce and other entities to attend and present at conferences that raise the profile of the Bank
  • Work closely with team members to ensure that report requirements of the Bank’s Headquarters are strictly adhered to
  • With the assistance of various departments, design new products that meet Bank and regulatory standards and can address specific needs of existing and prospective clients. Take a leading role in ensuring that all new product requirements are met and that implementation is compatible with processing systems
  • Perform portfolio analysis for risk exposure, client profitability and product type profitability and set strategy for the department in coordination with other business units to ensure that risk exposure is contained within defined parameters
  • Liaise with colleagues in other overseas branches of the Bank to pursue potential cross-border opportunities
  • Work closely with management to set annual performance targets for the department and individual team members

What we look for in the successful candidate:

  • Exceptional communication abilities – be able to make clear, concise and accurate presentations and to write in an effective and professional manner
  • Ability to make compelling presentations to prospective clients to communicate the Bank’s strategy and competitive advantages
  • Great attention to detail
  • Honesty and integrity
  • In-depth knowledge of trade finance products
  • Sound knowledge of credit risk assessment and outstanding knowledge of the Canadian financial regulatory framework and guidelines
  • Ability to engage effectively with subordinates, other departments and management

Qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting/finance/economics/business administration
  • At least 3 years of trade finance experience
  • Substantial experience in financial market business development
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin would be an advantage
