Important Notification Upgrade to a New Banking System


 

Dear Valued Customer:

We are pleased to advise you that in order to serve you better, Bank of China (Canada) is in the process of upgrading its core banking system. 

The conversion from the old system to the new system, necessitates  a temporary  suspension  of branch teller services and certain electronic banking services during this critical process.  To minimize the interruption to you, we have scheduled the conversion process to happen on the Easter weekend in March 2016. 

The table below shows the period of time during which branch teller service and electronic banking services will not be available:

Internet Banking

We have prepared for you a guide on how you can handle your banking transactions during and after the system change (see the following).  For help and any questions you have in this regard, please reach us by:

  • Calling our existing toll-free Customer Service Hotline 1-877-823-2288 which is valid until March 28, 2016; 
  • Calling our new toll-free Customer Service Hotline 1-844-669-5566 from March 28, 2016 onward; or
  • Emailing us at: service.ca@bankofchina.com.

Guide on Service Arrangements Under the New Banking System

Debit Cards

We will be issuing new debit cards with better features.  You can come at your convenience to your home branch and get a new debit card on or after 3/28/2016.  You can continue using your existing debit card until you have obtained a new one. 

We wish to remind you that during the service suspension period, you are unable to use your debit card at any ATM and POS machine for payment to a merchant.

ATMs

All of our ATMs will operate as usual on 3/27/2016 starting at9:00 AM.

Internet Banking Service

Due to the service suspension during the Easter weekend, we strongly advise you to conduct internet banking transactions, e.g. bill payment, funds transfer, remittance, etc., prior to 3/24/2016. 

Starting from 3/28/2016, you can use our new internet banking service.  You can sign on to the new system with your current user ID; however, you must reset your password.  To reset your password, you are required to come in person to your home branch to obtain an electronic device called E-Token.  The E-Token generates a PIN for you to enter into the system to reset your password.  Without the E-Token, you cannot change your password, which would render you unable to use the internet banking service.  We, therefore, strongly encourage you to come and get the E-Token on or before 3/24/2016.

New Account Number

With the new system, your account number will be changed to a new one.  We will inform you of the new account number in the March 2016 monthly statement sent out in early April 2016.  For savings account and term deposit customers, we will inform you of the new account number when you come in person to our branch to do banking business on or after 3/28/2016. 

On or after 3/28/2016, please use the new account number for pre-authorized payments and direct deposits.  We wish to advise that in order to avoid any delay in your funds settlement you must notify the concerned parties of your new account number, the payee in the situation of pre-authorized payment and the payer in the situation of direct deposit.
