Bank of China London Branch Hosts Virtual Town Hall to Celebrate the City Giving Day

On 22nd September, Bank of China London Branch has hosted a virtual Town Hall: City Giving Day & Me to celebrate the Bank’s commitment in the Lord Mayor’s City Giving Day.

City Giving Day is The Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s annual celebration of philanthropy and giving in the City. It’s a great time to reflect on everything that City businesses are doing for local communities and charities. It is also a perfect occasion for the Bank to unite all its employees and to celebrate and showcase our charitable achievements.

Despite of the covid-19 pandemic, the Bank has continued its commitment to charity work. It is already the 6th consecutive year that the Bank participated in the City Giving Day, and together we have created many new records.

It is the first time that we have staged this charity event as a virtual Bank of China Town Hall; it is the first time that we have invited staff family members to join the event, including their little ones; it is also the first time that our branches in Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and even Dublin have joined with us together. Despite the Covid-19, we have actually gathered a record number of over 300 participants, including the Lord Mayor alderman William Russell and the future Lord Mayor alderman Vincent Keaveny.

Mr. Wenjian Fang, general manager and CEO, has delivered an opening address. He expressed his excitement of the fact that the connections between the Bank and the City of London are growing deeper and closer, not only on the business side, but also through the charity work. He is very confident of a long and enduring association with the City Giving Day, with the City of London, and with the United Kingdom in the years to come.

The Lord Mayor William Russell has extended his great appreciation to the Bank for its long-term commitment to the charity and community work, and especially sent his sincere thanks to the Bank for its generous donation of PPEs to the UK in combating the covid-19 pandemic. He told the Bank that his favourite Chinese word is “Guan Xi” which means relationship in English, and he looked forward to an even closer and better relationship with Bank of China.

The Bank has organised various activities for the online event, including staff representative sharing their personal stories with City Giving Day, talent performance and live auction. The Bank has also invited representative from the Lord Mayor’s Appeal charity partner Place2Be to share with the Bank how our donations can help many people in need.

With the joint efforts of all of our staff, the event has turned out to be another big success, and the fund raised has again hit the record high of nearly 14 thousand pounds being raised. It has further demonstrated our firm commitment in corporate social responsibility and promoted the Bank’s image in the local community.
